I have no idea, but could you run an extension cable over there? all the openreach engineer is going to do as far as I understand it is change the faceplate of the master socket and plug the openreach modem into it, which then you plug your router into.

Lorian would be able to tell you for sure since his has been done. If thats a no go you'll have to ask the openreach engineer if he can move it for you This could be why some jobs overrun and installs like mine get cancelled.

I made a complaint to sky about the level of service I have recieved with them from the start of this order to now, basically saying what a shocking experience it has been and I just got the following response:

I am very sorry to hear of the problems you experienced with your Sky Talk service and that you were not kept updated with the progress of this matter.
Sky endeavour to provide the highest level of customer service and in accordance with this, every member of staff is expected to deal with customers enquiries in an efficient and professional manner. I very much regret that your recent experience with Sky failed to reflect this and accordingly I would like to offer my sincere apologies for the inconvenience you have endured as a result.
However, I would like to assure you that we take any examples of disregard for customer's satisfaction very seriously. We can footprint everybody that was in your account around this period and this situation will be investigated accordingly with the personnel concerned.
I have checked your account and I see the activation and engineers visit was missed by the openreach engineer. However, a request is send to the relevant department to appoint another engineer. You will be updated very soon about the new schedule of the engineers appointment.
I will not attempt to justify the unsatisfactory service you received from Sky recently, suffice to say that we have clearly failed you as a valued subscriber. Again I can only offer my sincere apologies for lack of service you have received from Sky and as a gesture of good will, I have arranged for you to receive your Sky Talk line rental subscription discounted to £3.00 per month for the next 12 months.
I do hope that this gesture will go some way to restoring your confidence in the level of service that we aim to offer our customers. I regret your recent experience may have given a negative impression of our service, however I hope all future contact with us will demonstrate our commitment to helping our customers.
I hope this helps with your enquiry. Please reply to this email for any further assistance.

I'm pretty sure the allotted time window they have for installs takes into consideration the odd hiccup, and unless i'm mistaken all they need to do is shortern the length of the phone cable that the faceplate is attached to and re-attach it to the wall near an electrical outlet. So i doubt this is the reason yours got cancelled.

So Guys who have now been installed - what are your stats? How fast have you got, what are your ping times?

and do you notice much difference from your current speed?

Hi everyone, my name is Mark, and I've been following the Hereford thread for about a week. I'm on cabinet 83, I think, which has the live sticker on it, but I am still unable to order.

My question is this: loads of posts seem to indicate that people have been able to place orders, yet with EVERY phone number I have tried in the availability checkers, using telephone numbers of lines all around the city, I haven't seen any that have said that ordering is permitted. In addition, the superfast broadband section of OpenReach still shows that it is "coming soon", no matter what number is used, some how are all orders being placed?

There are plenty of cabs that are live - see www.tinyurl.com/hereford-fttc and look for purple cabs. There might be more than shown.

Your cab doesn't look like its live yet, keep checking each day, I doubt it will be long now, two near you started takin orders in the last few days.

I think probably alll the cabs have stickers now (certianly most do) its NOT an indication the cab is live.

The exchange is definitely live smile)

Question for somebody who had already had an install

I'm planning on going with sky (if Kempton Ave cab ever gets done) .... So from what I have read I will get a BTO modem and a sky router, my current sky modem is installed upstairs and connected to an extension that is wired into the master socket downstairs.

Apparently BT engineer will change the master socket and install the modem on that socket only - is this correct? Moving the master socket is not an option and I dont really want my modem situated where the master socket is.

Question is - Can I at a later date run the BTO modem off an extension, wired directly into the back of the master socket?

You will need to run a cat5 cable from the modem next to the master socket to where you want your router.

Also .... Is it true the BTO modem connects to the faceplate via ethernet cable? - if this is correct I'll just run a length down to the master socket.
