Reply received from Openreach which is partially reassuring, as it hints that it MIGHT be available to take orders at end of October:

..............We power up the DSLAMs quite some time before bringing them into service. This is to do a 'soak' test on the circuitry................................Our network management team are waiting for the cabinet to be commissioned, currently scheduled for the end of October. Once this has been performed successfully, we will bring the cabinet into service and so enable it to accept orders.

Thank you for contacting Openreach about fibre broadband.

Cabinet WN/HR 9 is currently in its build phase and is scheduled to go live to take orders in Mid December.

Openreach has said that where technically and economically feasible they will provide either a FTTC (via new cabinet) or FTTP service, this is done on a case-by-case basis as the roll-outs progress.

Their is no confimed date yet but its estimated to be early 2014.

Is that a generic estimate, or for specific exchanges? For the "new cabinet FTTC" solution, or the FTTP solution?

I ask, because the indications from Cornwall (where Stenalees is the trial of the "new cabinet FTTC" solution) indicate this starts to be rolled out late 2012, into 2013.

2014 was the estimate from andrew in the first news article about EO lines, though with the latest one on the front page maybe 2013/2014.

Cornwall is always going to be ahead of the main rollout, so the 2013 date for Cornwall is proably where most of the work will begin but will have to wait and see how fast they progress.

As for the main commercial deployment and the BDUK projects which will likely start early 2013 and the majority into deployment mid to late 2013.
Most of the work is going to be FTTC, so EO work may be left till late 2013/early 2014 but its going to be different for each area.

Thats my rough estimate, though i will look to find out more from my local BDUK project.

The telecoms cabinet which serves your area PCP 30 is part of a wider series of issues we have encountered in the Hereford area, with the deployment of Fibre Broadband. We have experienced difficulty deploying the Fibre Broadband cabinets, (DSLAM) and until thus matter is resolved we are unable at this time to give you a date. These matters have been referred to senior management.
When planning our deployment, we must ensure that the DSLAM is located within 100m of its associated telephony connection cabinet and that there is adequate access to power and existing telephony infrastructure. Also, ensuring that the cabinet does not obstruct pedestrians, or provide a danger to road-users. To further enable the location of the DSLAM, we must accurately survey for other utility underground structure and obstacles. In all, this could ultimately mean that using current technology we may not be able to deploy Fibre Broadband services in all areas previously planned.

I appreciate this is not the news you were hoping for and would suggest contacting us again in the early part of next year when hopefully there may be more definite information

Please ask them what the specific problem is for Cab 30:

There are choices of locations within 100M
There is power within the vicinity
There is precidence for new cabs in the area witness the recent nearby BIG O2 cab
There is Fibre nearby (cab 60 opposite is live)
There has been no (publiicised) planning consent refused
The works have been previously scheduled and cancelled without even a hole being dug to it's not that they have surveyed incorrectly (like in victoria st).

So the only thing left in my mind is the lack of space for tie cables due to the SCP. But they would have know that was there when they included it originally.

Feel free to use this in your response to them. I pass this cab very often!!!

Strange thing happened. Been checking every day on BT site and comes back with 31st Dec. Now and then though I log into BT website (I�m with them for phone & internet) and attempt to order. Comes back with, �sorry you can�t have infinity but you can have bt broadband�.
This time thought it let me order, then I get email saying:

I was logged into the BT site when I placed the order, all my details are right, post code telephone number, so why do they think I�m not with BT? Am I going to be disappointed when they write and say there was a mistake?

A mate of mine who lives in one of the little side roads along St Owen street also got a date of December, which is strange as there is a fibre cab next to the normal cab just down the road from him and it got the poster on.
