Yep. SIM provides on FTTC do seem a bit dodgy.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet Extra Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 54.0/14.9Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

PITA though!

Virgin have given a date of Jan13th to cease, I assume I will not loose the number during the intervening time waiting for OR to decide if they have enough time to fit a new faceplate and jumper the cab???

Lose which number? The original one on the line, or the one on Virgin? Is the Virgin one an Openreach line, or is it Virgin cable?

There is a possibility the number will be lost, yes.

Neither party can guarantee it either way, unfortunately it's just a matter of suck it and see...

Last time I had a similar issue, transferring from Virgin Cable (Ex-Telewest area) to BT Retail in January at my old place, there was a gap, and I lost the number.

You could port the number to a VOIP provider...

It's a openreach number ported to a virgin cable line.

Isn't the port part of the same order? Or is it separate once the line is installed and live?

Ah, that's good, but ...
Isn't the port part of the same order? Or is it separate once the line is installed and live?
... are you asking me or BatBoy that? It's not my territory I'm afraid, but I would think once the line is ceased the number is released. Is it important to keep it, or would just be preferable?

Best to delve deeper if it matters.

thats the downside of what I did (keepign the VM service up), cant port the number.

So my BT line has a new number.

BT Infinity 2 Since Dec 2012 - Estimate 65.9/20 - Sync 80/20

Just spoke to Virgin and the line needs to be active for the port to work, so they have changed the termination dates to match.

When you cancel the virgin line there is no reason why you cant port the number into BT, unless they wont allow it?

There shouldn't be a problem with it being in the BT number range to start with.

I assume you've allowed a couple of days grace? A cease at 8am with an intended port at 11am ... frown
