Unless the database is now updated as soon as a cabinet is planned for installation then it is not reliable for finding out if you're going to get fibre. My experience of checking three exchanges (every planned cab) on a weekly basis since last August (see map in sig) using addresses which are supplied by the cabinet in question proves this to me.
If I get chance I will check some tonight and post details tonight to prove this to you, or see if it's now kept up to date.
Edit: It's quiet here at work so to prove that the BT wholesale checker is unreliable for predicting FTTC
We take cabinet NDWES 9, which has just been scheduled for installation between 18 - 24 January on
www.roadworks.org
Opposite this cabinet is a pub, their postcode is CT88JT
We check the postcode in the December 2011 spreadsheet, it is 100% supplied by cabinet NDWES 9
We put the pubs phone number into the BT Wholsale checker and get the following:
For Telephone Number (look it up if you want to check) on Exchange WESTGATE
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 8Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 7Mbps and 8Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL2+ broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 18.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 17Mbps and 20.5Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1.5Mbps and downstream line speed of 18.5Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 17Mbps and 20.5Mbps.
The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.
Thank you for your interest.
Please note that postcode and address check results are indicative only. Most accurate results can be obtained from a telephone number check.
Note: Provision of some services may not be allowed due to product withdrawal, please contact your service provider for further details.
Now I take my post code, with 100% lines supplied and feed it in to the infinity checker
here.
Where it says 'Check if you can get BT infinity' select I'm not with BT, enter the postcode and 999 as the house number (we want a number that won't be found)
Now when it complains it can't find the address just enter only the postcode and click find.
It will now give you all addresses supplied in that postcode, and as that postcode was 100% from the cab we know they are all on the cab in question. Sometimes it will even show the PCP and/or DSLAM, in this instance it does show the DSLAM which has not been installed, so it is in a BT database, even though it is not yet installed.
Now take any of those addresses and try them in the address checker, I'll try number 41.
I get the same result as above, no mention of FTTC, yet we know the cabinet is planned and scheduled for installation soon, therefore you can not rely on the wholesale checker to know if you are going to get fibre or not.
