does the wires only documents state isp's must supply vectoring friendly modems? if not I am worried BT have abandoned the idea of vectoring.

As you later noted, vectoring support is required. There may well be a limited number of cases where consumers provide their own non-vectoring capable gear (or have replaced their BT Openreach modem with non-vectoring capable gear), but BT Openreach will be able to spot the failure to respond to the vectoring messages and power down the port.

Yes, I've wondered why this end-game hasn't been hurried along somewhat. Get to that stage, and BT can sell off lots of exchanges, run everything from the street dslams. Less copper to maintain helps also, especially with scrotes stealing it so often

I suspect possibly the end game is FTTP mixed with adsl from the cabinet, these modems eg. can also support adsl. I guess the dslams can as well.

I dont think we will see VDSL mixed with ADSL from the cabinet.
