Re: FTTC installs without faceplate: dodgy or experimental?

[re: Chrysalis] [link to this post]

Must admit I'm confused, as I thought the Infineon DSLAMs were the ones that matched the ECI modem, but supplied modem is definitely an Echolife HG612.

I'm assuming the 7490 will be the 7390 with vectoring, but I may be mistaken.

yes like yourself i was given a HG modem on a ECI dslam they dont match on the chipset.

the 7490 has many updates over the 7390, the dsl chipset may or may not be different (I expect it will be tho as they stopped using the 7390 dsl chipset in newer models).

I think maybe I was one of those that were confused, I have never seen an iPlate but assumed it was a filtered plate like the ADSL nation plate that I installed, that filters out the Telephone input & extensions from the DSL connection, which is obviously wrong.

Looking at what you are saying the iplate disconnects the ring wire (3?) from the circuit so giving better performance on in-line DSL filters, is that correct?

and yes I did mean a proper filtered faceplate aka the original engineer installed ADSL plates

So do I, that was why I bought the 7390, connected to mine I have on:
LAN1 via 10m cable upstairs to a TP-Link switch: Computer, 2 x Buffalo NAS, SKY, BT YouView, Blu-ray and a LG SMART upgrader,
LAN2 SamKnows kit,
LAN3 a D-Link Sharecentre ,
LAN4 via PowerLine to TV, Blu-ray & SKY. The complete telephone system is connected as well, along with a portable Fritz!Fon-MT, and a security system for my wife who is disabled and now with the latest firmware it is easier to connect to it all when I go away.

I'm hoping they come up with a fix for the vectoring, as although I could afford to buy the 7490 it would be an awful waste of money as this is only a year old, the you tube vid by the way was very good.

Weird because I have had no problem whatsoever with my connection, it has been stable now for over a year, and although my stats on download (SamKnows) goes up and down by a couple of Meg (between 72 & 76) each month, I don't notice any difference.

yeah the hg works.

its also entirely possible my prediction is wrong and eci cabs get vectoring which works fine with hg modems.

Looks like it gonna be a wait and see, if one day they introduce vectoring and my 7390 says fu, then I'll put the hg back on and if it still says fu, then I'll have to get the boys out to the exchange and more fubar smile
