Re: FTTC Cabinets being installed in Barnstaple

I cant quite believe we have it now after such a long wait !

67/20 was predicted so pretty good going if it stays around that but the BTOR guy said adsl was 1 to 25 contention where as fibre is only 1 to 3 so shouldn't decrease much when more people join either ( might not have the terminology correct there but you get the idea smile )

Tons better but a lot of website are slow any way it seems and don't seem that zippy but you tube used to buffer on lowest quality now HD is fully loaded in a blink.

BTOR eng also mentioned there is only OR gear in the exchange for fibre and u don't need to wait for SKy TT etc to get their gear in which sounded strange.

Very Happy now , just need to tidy cabling up a bit and maybe wireless desktop smile

Cheers smile

You're more likely to see a degrading service on FTTC as more people join the FTTC cabinet creating crosstalk which will degrade your service with some loss of speed.

The BTOR guy said that cross talk wouldn't be a problem with fibre !! don't ask me why maybe short length between old and new cabinets.

Cheers smile

Judging by that comment, and the ones you mentioned in your previous post, the BTOR guy was an idiot crazy

Please expand, for the less technical (me!). Isn't crosstalk where the signal leaks from one cable to another, so on fibre, how?

You are no longer on their network, some ISP email systems only allow emails to be sent from their network, to avoid it being used as a relay. Can you use webmail?

Probably the SMTP server is inaccessible from your new ISP.

More likely to be a coincidental problem with the TalkTalk email servers than anything to do with fibre, I suspect.

FTTC uses telephone wires from the cabinet to the house, where cross-talk can be a problem.
