pulling cable

today BT was pulling a large black cable through the fibre cabinet,pcb cabinet and then along our street via BT man holes. fibre has been up and running for sometime and the cabinet is still accepting orders. Phones have not gone down at all today so does anyone know what they could be doing.

connecting up a new development ? how large is "large"

no new development around here. the new cable runs from the pcb to the ftc cab then runs from that via manholes all the way to where the over head poles start. to me it does look like new phone cable. but that was done not long ago. we are the last cabinet in our village and it just seems to be that one thats having this done. have 4 engineers working on it and both cabs have been open all day with these big cables hanging out of them.
at a rough guess a would say the cable will run 100 to 200m in length

If it had a yellow stripe then probably fibre tube rather than copper pairs

I dont think it could be phone cable as that was done in the last year or so. But if it is fibre then why would they run it from the 2 cabs up the the phone poles. there is no planed FTP here and am almost sure that no one has paid for that service here.

Are the poles heading towards properties? Or taking the cable back to the exchange?

If the former, then they could be replacing D-side cables, or at least a segment of the cables. But it would be strange to go via the FTTC cabinet.

The latter seems even less likely. E-side cables really wouldn't go via the FTTC cabinet.

It could be that they're having to replace *everything* that were underground at that point - D-side and Tie-cable, at the least. That could explain it.

If it were fibre, then someone could have ordered FTTPoD, and this is a segment of the build. But it would be strange to involve *either* cabinet then - you'd expect just the manholes to be involved.

its going away from the exchange and towards the properties where the manholes end and the poles start. but as said that part of the cable was all replace about a year ago before we had FTC. its maybe just possible that after it was all replace, something went wrong and its being replaced again. will pop along the morra and ask them what they doing.

There could be more than one cable along that run, and they're now replacing a second one.

Asking is probably the best bet
