Re: Should copper line be ceased with FTTP?

[re: kitcat] [link to this post]

Hi,

I'm on Leytonstone. I get a dial tone but any number you dial just gets a message along the lines of "you have dialed an incorrect number."

I'm not fussed about it, was just curious.

Thanks!

Is that message coming through the original copper feed ? If so, try plugging a phone in the PSTN1 jack on the underside of the ONTE, does this work ?

If not, might be worth ringing your voice provider and asking them whats going on.

dial 17070 and it'll tell you the number it believes is active on the line

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

Hi,

Yes that message is through the copper feed. The phone port on the Openreach modem works fine.

Thanks

Glad to be of service.

The FVA service (dial tone over the fibre) usually gets switched over from the original copper service about two days after the install. I suspect you should have had some info re this at some point, but probably lost in translation, the installer should have told you this also.

I take you still have to pay line rental with FVA or can you do without the voice service and copper loop altogether with FTTP?

Virgin (ADSL) => Namesco => Newnet => O2 => Plusnet => Zen => Newnet => Zen => Freeola => Vivaciti (using O2 Wholesale DSL) => Xilo (C&W Wholesale) => Xilo (O2 Wholesale)

IIonex

Sounds like a stopped line to me. You should be able to dial 0800 numbers and 999 but everything else will be barred.

If you ever wanted to stop taking the fibre and revert to the copper you could, but I can't think of any reason you would want to.

Ay some point the line will move from a stopped state to a ceased state and the exchange equipment reused, this is usually after some years.

Up to you. You can have FTTP + discount + Phone service or you can have FTTP "data only".

The cost has been discussed on here previously, IIRC there's no saving as the discount for taking FTTP with a fixed line roughly equates to the cost of the fixed line service.
