Re: FTTC - TT or Plusnet

Or are you simply suggesting that the 24mps estimate from pulsnet is incorrect and will be recognized as such by BT wholesale?

IIRC someone on the phone came back with 24Mbps. We don't know where that came from. Yes, that is junk.

If you order over the phone and are given that again, it is junk.

If you order online, at some point it gives you an estimate. If that says 24Mbs, it is junk. All estimates come from BT Wholesale anyway. ISPs don't have their own estimating system - theirs just query a BTW database.

Your line is a known quantity. 11 Mbps. End of smile.

Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 55.8/14.5Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

I was getting my hopes up! Dashed! Your right though, my lines 11mps is a known quantity and if Plusnet can deliver a similar speed I will be very happy with that.

you're saying if I switch to Plusnet and they are able to deliver a faster service (for whatever reason) as they use BT Wholesale my speed will be kept at the slower current 11mps?
He's not saying that at all! PN will not cap your line. You will get as fast as you can get, which is the 11 Meg you are getting now as there will be no difference in the connection.

A couple more questions regards planned move to Plusnet. I use Kaspersky for all my internet security. I am thinking that I therefore don't need Plusnet Protect. Is the Plusnet Protect a basic security similar to Kaspersky? Second I am currently with BT and have home hub 3 router. Will this work with Plusnet service?

McAfee for 3 months free then £2 per month after that (don't bother with it, stick with Kaspersky.) Router is free just pay £5.99 postage. Both only included when you take a fibre and phone deal on an 18 month contract. Router for free, with £5.99 postage, is included with fibre "broadband only" which is also on an 18 month contract.

It's free indefinitely on the Unlimited products. But I agree, stick with what you are happy with, no need to change.

As the others say re Kaspersky. That is one of the better ones, consumer level McAfee is one of the poor ones, which is why they sell it cheap or give it away to many ISPs to get a foot in the door with users.

I think the Home Hubs are, or at least were, locked to BT. If they are, I expect they can be unlocked, but that doesn't sound like the sort of thing for you. Go with the PlusNet one, and maybe try some time to see if the Home Hub works.

I believe that if you and family are between you doing multiple tasks simultaneously, such as gaming, TV catchup, YouTube, browsing and downloading, PlusNet will give the best overall experience because the traffic management stops gaming and browsing getting swamped by the heavier less time-critical download stuff.

Can I ask are you referring to specifically my house. Do plusnet traffic manage your connection individually or is it a collective management? What I'm trying to ask is are you saying if john (on plusnet) down the street is intensively downloading that will be slowed to alow me to watch tv or game? Or is this traffic management on an individual level eg, my son is downloading on a laptop this is slowed if I was watching tv?
