If cabinet 43 gains its fibre twin yes, you would be able to order a service if you are also on cabinet 43, but pay heed to the distance warnings.

1.5 mile is around 2700 m and take a look at the chart on http://www.thinkbroadband.com/guide/fibre-broadband.... which runs at 1500m, estimate for 2700m would be in the 5 to 8 Mbps region.

Surely the second 3 should be 43.

First thing to do is find Cabinet 43.

Ok, so I've located the cabinet, but apart from having the foliage cleared from it recently, there is nothing else around it. Is there anyway of finding out if/when/how long it will be until this cabinet is upgraded?

you could e-mail [email protected] to ask if they can give you any information about when you might get fibre. Include your phone number, address and postcode.

I am in Pottington in Barnstaple, we have a dish that is pointing directly at the civic centre and it provides a very quick (under 30ms) connection to the internet.

It is provided by Wild West Net and for a low fee for the surrounding areas, you can have a taste of super fast broadband.

This is a real alternative to fibre.

They won't tell you, announcing in phases in the future.

Just a quick update. Got nowhere with BT or Connecting Devon & Somerset, just some typically non committal generic email replies. So I thought I'd try the Wild West Net people as suggested. They were really helpful, came around a few days later to do a site test for connection speeds and told me we could get approx. 15-20 meg speed! £100 to set it up and install a dish, then £25 a month for 100gig download limit.

It's some kind of huge wireless type network, and the only slight draw back is that you have to agree to have a second dish on your property as a repeater if someone else needs to connect via your feed.

I reckon it's got to be worth a try, so they are coming on Friday to install. Fingers crossed it's as good as it seems!

Ok, it took a little while to sort out (you need line of sight to another subscriber within 10 miles to get a connection and we needed to trim a tree to do this!), but now it's up and running, it's great!

We get around 20-25 mbs speed on speed tests, it's like a whole new world! If anyone else in N Devon is having issues I'd highly recommend this service (and no, I'm not on commission, just extremely pleased!)
