Re: FTTC - only offered Fibre1, why?

If you can find these 2 distance curve graphs I would be surprised

The tech for the two services is identical, i.e. Fibre 2 is using VDSL2 Profile 17a, which is also what Fibre 1 is using.

This is not like the difference between an ADSL and an ADSL2+ product.

I thought that the maximum speed on the checker would be given twice once for each service, as the distance curves for the 2 services are quite different.

They used to be, they're not anymore.

OK, I mistakenly thought that BT were still using separate profiles for the 38Mbs and 78Mbs services.

In that case I now wonder about the quality of my line and whether there is a serious issue with the local infrastructure. When I had issues with ADSL the engineer achieved 4.5 MBs at the cab but only 2Mbs at my master socket and I did think that was excessive as the whole area is a 70s housing estate with just one cab, and clearly differentiated routes for the underground plant.

As soon as fibre on demand arrives in our area I intend to order it! I need more speed. smile

I just looked at a graph for profile 17a (or whatever) and for the speed I have it suggests that I am 1Km from the cabinet. This seems unrealistic when compared to my local survey which suggested I was 0.5 mile from the cab. Does this suggest that there are issues with the local copper infrastructure?

0.5 miles is 800m (0.8m), not the 500m you posted earlier. There is a world of difference between this and the 300m you mentioned for the other property.
