As far as I can tell all ports are forwarded correctly and the firewall is allowing traffic to pass freely. I had already done this but I double checked it.

Telnet still fails.

As an experiment, I set up a Ventrilo server and asked a friend in Yorkshire to see if he could connect. All this worked fine and without problems. I assume that is indicative of no problems with ports or firewalls.

Unfortunately not.

What I would do is post a very short post in the other forum, saying you are having a problem with that site, and ask anyone who can help to join this thread.

Give them the link to this thread. If you look at your opening post and right-click on the Link to this post in its header, you can copy the link and paste it into your linking post. There are ways of making it look neater, but that will do the job .

Starting a complete new thread there isn't a good idea, as a lot of ground has been covered in this one. (It would probably be frowned upon as cross-posting as well).

That's moot.

You are trying to make an outbound Ventrilo connection not accept incoming. Windows (7+) firewall by default blocks outgoing connections on uncommon ports. In default mode you get a notification the first time an application tries to communicate (Allow once / Allow always / Deny type style).

It might help diagnosis if you post some infomation regards your network setup. Don't forget Ventrilo needs UDP as well as TCP when it comes to firewalling.

I have allowed TCP incoming and outgoing coms via the Win 7 firewall on ports (TCP) 3784 & (UDP) 3784 and 6100. Ports are forwarded on the BT HH 3 too in a similar manner. I have a HG612 and am connected to HH 3 via 1GBe port.

Running W7 64 Ultimate.

Is that enough?


Possibly or not connected. Since Christmas my fibre connection has been nothing short of atrocious. Problems on a literally daily basis with it freezing and ceasing to function leaving no other option but to reset modem and HH which frequently fails to work anyway. Sometimes (often) this happens several times a day. I am not over exaggerating, it has been abysmal. I know there are problems in the area but it is getting stupid at this point.

The only time I use Windows Firewall is on initial setup or while changing my IS suite .

Yep that was my feeling but I couldn't find one I was happy with and eventually gave up looking. That was some time ago and I forgot to look again..If you can recommend one, please do..

This doesn't solve the problem though.
