Re: BT HH5 or Netgear Router

Thanks all. I will let engineer install BTO modem, once they left. I test the speed compare with BTO modem with Netgear Router than powered off, and try HH5 alone and see which one is best speed. Must do it on the installation day. Before DLM kick in 2nd day.

There isn't a 10-day stabilisation. If it is connected for more than 15 minutes on installation day then the Openreach stabilisation period occurs on the next day. From BT Sin 498:-
On the first day of operation, DLM will intervene if severe instability is detected. Otherwise, DLM will wait until the day after provision before deciding if it must intervene, provided that the line has been trained up for at least 15 minutes during the preceding day.
The way I read it, that applies until a day with at least 15 minutes uptime occurs - stabilisation occurs the following day.

From the end of that initial stabilisation it runs 24/7 just like the BT Wholesale one did on ADSLx.

Ok thanks but I don't know why I being told by plusnet that FTTC will be on 10 days training period. I will ask openreach engineer when he come to install fibre.

Engineer won't know - nothing to do with Openreach. It's BT Wholesale who have always been clueless about this on ADSLx and now don't even understand they have no real control over it on FTTC. They can request Standard, Stable or Superstable. The default is Standard.

I found under BT Wholesale Checker that say below the table:

For all ADSL and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) services, the stable line rate will be determined during the first 10 days of service usage.

the 10 days thing comes from the MSR and FTR on adsl. But those arent on FTTC connections.

Also I think isps advise 10 day stabilisations as I am guessing they assume unstable lines will be put under control by DLM within 10 days, so they do it to stop customers ringing up complaining.

The reality is tho on FTTC speeds generally start as high as you will ever see them and from that point the only way is downwards. This can carry on happening well outside the 10 day period.

It does seem alot of things broadband related is about trying to just keep the end user mellow, engineers lieing to customers and so on. I had one trying to mislead me on friday when he visited to look at my line. Telling me my estimated speed is only possible if next door to cabinet. I of course tried to tell him my estimated speed would be the full speed if I was next to the cabinet and my line was under performing, he wasnt interested. He even diagnosed a fault and then decided he hadnt enough time to fix it even tho he was here well under alloted 2 hours. So expect to be fed a load of bs on FTTC from various fronts.

Not quite true, it can go up again as well, but you are right that, barring a fault, the speed you get on first connection will be the highest you ever get.

yep its possible but not probable. Although might be more common on self install's with bad wiring issues.

No, once it had been installed it staying there because of the first ten days training period to stable the line.
