Yeah the reality is that it probably wouldn't help matters. Part of the 'problem' (understandably so) is that wholesale prices are presumably fixed so they can't for example charge more in areas with poor DSL connections. I can fully understand how a £50+ product probably wouldn't appeal to 'normal' people, especially those who can get a reasonable ADSL2+ connection for tuppence-halfpenny.

It's just frustrating when you have so few options and that there are no realistic avenues open to getting a better connection short of crazy options like leased lines or whatever. About 11(?) years ago I was an early adopter of 2mbit ADSL at a time when the standard was 0.5mbit, as Nildram offered a rebadged office product for £58/month. Nowadays even £100/month would be something I could swallow, but all the focus nowadays seems to be on FTTC meaning if you aren't getting a cab upgrade then you miss out (still no plans for 21CN/ADSL2+ at my exchange).
