That is automatic with BTretail (Infinity) and so I'd assume very likely with Plusnet. Nope. But it is a free option offered during the online order process.

Not anymore, it's no longer offered as an option. I was given the option when I joined last year, but I signed up my friend a week ago and the option wasn't there.
Also, it defaults to "no", as this is noted in his member control panel:
Engineer notes:
Data extension kit required: No
I also noticed that they no longer force you to pay the £5.99 postage for the router, you can now decline it.

Actually when I signed up in January I ticked the box for that. I had no idea what it meant but it said it was free so I ticked it lol
Quick newb question. My old ADSL was just under 10mb yet I'd get a solid 7-9mb on wireless.
The plusnet fibre is 78mb but I get no more than 30mb on the same computer with the same location - the router is in the same spot. It's an N adapter on the desktop.
Will a router such as the Asus AC66U improve this? It seems odd to be well below 50% speed when theold router managed 80%

Have you any "g" devices connecting to the router?

Nope, I switched everything off and only had the desktop with the N adapter on.
My other devices are N also I believe - PS3 slim, WDTV and various smartphones (oldest being the S2 but even that is N).

PS3 is your likely culprit here, all models are B/G I'm afraid.

But it's switched off?
Can I expect better on a different router.

You could try seeing what happens to your wireless speed if you reboot it while the PS3 is off. But do it well inside daylight hours or you may slow down the internet connection speed.

I'm not happy with the Plusher router. It glitches too much and needs at least one restart a day.
I can be happily using the internet on any device then it will just stop working. But it will still work on other devices! So my desktop will refuse to load any webpages, meanwhile my phone is fine, my laptop is fine etc I disconnect and reconnect - full wifi signal and connected but still no internet. So I have to reboot the router. It's annoying.
It also randomly reboots itself when it's in heavy use.
I've ordered the Asus RT-AC66U now
