I also have clients with just one line into the premises and used it for the alarm to connect with the ARC. There as never been a problem. Only time I got a problem as such was getting the client to turn off the Ans phone and Fax M/c if we ever needed to do some remote work to the alarm sys over the phone. May I ask what make of alarm it is and do you know what connection to the phone sys is it. I.e. Redcare or ? Once even got a SD1 working on a cheapp Pyronix for a old guy my dad knew LOL

Many thanks for your continuing responses, I started two threads in order to avoid confusion.

In answer to your questions:

1. Yes I have taken out the surge protector so it is now NTE with standard faceplate > ADSL Nation XF-1e filter > Their twisted pair RJ-11 cable > router.
2. The ISP have suggested it maybe REIN as they are seeing more errors on the upstream, they did not say categorically that it was REIN, downstream sync seems to keep increasing.

If I can avoid going down the FTTP route I would like to as up to now ADSL has provided me with what I need.

I use an ADSL nation filter as have always found that does improve things (even before I moved to the LLU set up), if I use one of the normal filters provided with a router I get worse sync and throughput, It did cross my mind if one of the caps or resistors in this could be on the way out, held off on spending money in case this proved to be baseless, anyone seen similar issues caused by a faulty filter? (there is no telephone plugged into the line)

I'd suggest that were not the case. More errors on the upstream , and I'd be checking the exchange equipment myself. That the downstream sync is increasing would be another indicator that it isn't REIN.

Glad you have put the RJ11 lead as nature intended now. TBF it's a gimmick at best, used to sell their products to worried Daily Mail readers.

Like yourself I do take anything in the Daily Mail with a cellar of salt but I did have a dial-up modem taken out by a lightning strike some years ago hence the presence of a surge protector.

I've now ordered a replacement ADSL Nation filter just in case anything has gone awry with that and have agreed with Xilo I'll let them know when I have that in place so they can run some more tests.

As you can see from the other thread OR engineer told me he'd moved the E side and rejumpered the line, if the tests still show a high error rate what should I be asking to be done and who should I be approaching bearing in mind WLR is through Zen and BB is TalkTalk through Xilo?

Just to update this thread I've replaced the existing filter with another new ADSL nation one but this hasn't helped thoughput at all.

Sync rate keeps rising (4394 kbps down now)

BT keep saying they can't see anything remotely and so want to organise visit number 2.

I could really do with some advice on what I should be asking to be done now as I'm getting rather hacked off with this now as I imagine the good people at Xilo are too.
