Yes, Sky dont offer me a Static IP

You don't say where you are in the country (I think) but I used to get a very similar route to that when I was with BT FTTC in south-west London. My first hop was 5ms, but I was getting 20-22ms to bbc.co.uk as I think my traffic was going via Sheffield (the sf.21cn-ipp hop 8) - which yours also seems to have.

If Sheffield isn't too far out of the way for you on the way to London then it probably won't make much difference, but as I was about 9 miles from Telecity and getting routed to Sheffield and back it increased my ping by a factor of 3 to 4 and irritated me from a this-doesn't-make-any-sense POV.

Now with Sky, same house, same VDSL, and it's excellent:

im in north west london, and your example of improvements with better routing on their network has just pushed me into changing 100% now, although i may still go with plusnet over sky, done some checks and ofcom tests showed plusnet had higher average speeds and lower average pings, although im aware its all dependent on many factors such as line quality, length, noise etc.

Plusnet do traffic prioritisation, this means things like gaming, streaming, voip will be given a higher priority over less time sensitive traffic, which has surely got to help.

It does rely on traffic being recognised in the category though so a brand new game may take a little while to get into the list to receive priority. I believe that if a game is suffering that a call can be raised with Plusnet to get it put in the priority category though.

Depending on your budget... but have you looked at AAISP?

They have a 'clean' line to the Internet. No throttling.

budgets not really an issue, i can pay up to £45/month for FTTC + line rental.

AAISP website looks way to unprofessional. I never trust companies who dont make an effort with website appearance

Don't let their website put you off - they have one of the best reviews. I have used them before and they're excellent.
