Are you aware you can monitor the stats with DSLStats?

No, ive not seen that one before. I've been messing around with PRTG, but ill give that one a try too!

I've got ping graphs on fruk.net running. Link

(The large packet loss is where I did a restart and my DD-WRT didn't update the DDNS for some reason until I forced it.)

EDIT: I'm using DSLstats now and its pretty great! It does all the telnet commands for me too so I can whine about stats quicker and easier, thanks!

I'll leave it running in the background, set it to run on startup too.

The HH5 has been known to have problems which can cause the DLM to take action, as BatBoy says leave it alone.

There is also another program for long term logging of stats, although it's designed to be left running constantly. It's called HG612 Stats Modem Stats. A lot of people run both in combination though you have to make sure that they aren't timed to collect the stats at the same time. I think this is virtually automatic now as long as you leave HG612 to collect at 0 seconds.

Sweet, i'll take a look at that one too.

Here are the "Average Error rates over a 24 hour period" since running DSLstats:

I've never really looked into what's considered normal for FEC errors, is an estimated 12k per day ok?

My connection at work just clocked 405,210 FEC errors in the last minute, and it's been running fine like that since last July. They've tended to vary between 100k to 500k per minute, so I would not worry about 12k a day smile

If fact I'd hazard a guess that if they are that low then your interleaving will be reduced at some point.

Good morning everyone. Just a little update as I fired up DSLstats this morning to find out Interleaving appears to have been turned off completely already! So that was a lot faster than expected.

The stats look more like this now:

So thankfully my pings are back to normal now and the speed has increased back to normal too. Strangely there are all sorts of errors occurring now.

In the bottom corner of DSLstats it reads that the modem has been up for 1:21:23:51, but the DSL has only been up 8:51:23. Does that mean it was reset when DLM changed or is there something else for me to concern over?

Also, am I right in assuming as long as the modem stays connected, I can restart and play with the router as much as I want without upsetting DLM again? I wondered this because it often causes an IP change.

You can do what you want with the router, it won't affect the DLM.

Your IP address changes because you don't have a fixed IP address and disconnecting the router breaks the connection between you and your ISP, which runs over the connection between the DLM and modem. The modem maintains the connection between it's self and the DLM independently of the ISP connection.

Ah, thats good. I wasn't sure if DLM depended on a login or IP address from BT.

Thanks again smile

Full 80/20 connection with plenty to spare if cross-talk comes along.

The 1:21:3:51 is the length of time the modem has been since last reboot. The DLM changed the line settings so disconnected and reconnected in order for them to take effect. Which is why your speeds have gone up and stats are showing Fast Path. The 8:51:23 is the time since the connection was re-established.
