Re: 'SUPERFAST' fibre optic .... NOT!!!!!!

thank you very much for those who have helped me.
it is much appreciated.
i will look at the link etc.

i do not mean to offend, but if anyone tells anyone to stop moaning, it doesn't really matter if its in their own home, in a queue, or other, especially when I wasn't saying anything about anyone just about the obvious BT 'system'.

as for who is in a worse situation, that is something that would need far more attention?

Seems unfair, you want FTTC and can't get it, I am not interested and yet I can get it if I wanted it.

My sympathies. I am near the centre of 20K population Devon coastal town, I am surrounded by FTTC cabs, but ours is not enabled. I have been given the runaround by BT for several years ( your cab is listed for FTTC, your cab is delayed, no your cab is not listed etc).... and now by the regional BDUK people... they survey and keep the data "secret". The lack of faster UL speed has held back my media sector home business, so the problem is serious for me.

A shambles from end to end.

I had a very similar experience with BT
Having tried and failed to get info from SKY as to when my cab went live, I rang BT and was told in no uncertain terms that they would get "first dibs" on the cab when it went live, that they would know at least 3-4 weeks before sky that it was live and they would contact everybody on the cab who had BT broadband and get them to sign up. They basically tried to convince me that unless I signed up with them before it went live I ran the risk of being too late and the DSLAM would be full by the time sky could get me onto it
The cab still isn't live (copper ties need doing according to ribble) and no idea when it will be live

They'll tell you here that BT retail find out at the same time as sky, TT and the rest but BTs sales people clearly say different and use the fibre rollout as a means to drag people from the other ISPs to them instead using misinformation and planting unfounded fears in them.

I don't think Ofcom would be very happy if BT Retail had such a competitive advantage as having early notice of a cabinet going live. I'm sure Sky and TalkTalk would have complained long ago, as it would be perfectly obvious to them.

Never mind the smaller BT Wholesale ISPs.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 58.7/14.6Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

I'm not saying that they do mate, what I'm saying is that some of their sales people are claiming that they do. It's the age old "fear close" sales technique. But saying that when speaking to retentions in sky to try and get more info I was told that it would be live on average 3 weeks before sky knew about it

I recall reading somewhere that Openreach offers a periodic marketing focused report on products reaching a new area, on the rationale that if you know SO26 now has FTTC that's a great time to mailshot SO26 residents suggesting they sign up for your FTTC product, or indeed to target existing customers in SO26 to offer them an upgrade. I can easily imagine that such a report is not as timely as having an employee go into the Openreach checker manually and prod it once per week or so for a specific customer's phone line. Not least because "area" coverage may mean two or more cabinets, whereas the actual service just depends on your specific PCP.

For example, a few months ago now the PCP I'm currently on got a twin. Then people dug up some of the road, and then one day I used the DSL checker and it said I could now get FTTC. A few weeks passed, and last Wednesday I received a pair of letters from BT Retail, announcing that "Infinity" was now available in my area (and would I like to buy the expensive triple play package?)

If you're the average non-nerd consumer you would have no inkling that FTTC was available to you until that Infinity advert dropped through the door. But in fact people who were waiting got it back in March or April. So in a sense those people got it "early", but not earlier than if they'd been similarly dogged in re-checking and chosen to go with Zen, or A&A or whatever.

It's different in this area, maybe coz it's one ok the govt sponsored zones, we've had press info saying it's coming, sky and bt have both had billboards for last few months saying it's coming. So non nerds are also waiting for it and in fact a good few people I know have rang BT to try and book it.
It's probably just the odd few sales people who lie about the benefits of changing to them, but it's definitely happening here
