Funny how situations change. I used to work in the exchange in Hastings and one of the problems we had was that some lines were too short.

When, in the early 90's I would guess, all the pubs* started getting those new fangled payphones that sit on the bar we had great problems getting the ones in the town centre to work. Turns out the lines were too short and needed a 270 ohm resistor added to each leg to get them to work reliably!

* Is the Crypt still open? Happy memories of that place, the ones I can recall anyway.

cab would not have been deployed as it did not meet commercial criteria --= not because it was hard to do

The Crypt closed down about 3 years ago due to financial problems but reopened last year and is now called West Exit.
