I always thought early morning like 7am was the best time to do a re-sync?

Depends why you're resyncing...

If you're doing a resync to gain a bit of speed (because a night-time resync would not attain maximum sync) the best time is when all long distance AM radio propagation has subsided, little in the way of electronic & electrical equipment is running, and it's light outside (typically I've found this to be sometime between 9am and 2pm).
But doing this may mean you have insufficient margin to get you through the high noise periods (which could lead to a resync during high noise, and the inevitable lower sync speed that will result).

If you're resyncing in order to obtain good stability, you're better off resyncing when background noise is about half-way between nil and maximum. This will ensure the line resyncs at a lower speed (to obtain the correct SNR/noise margin).
If you can do that, the line will operate at a lower sync, but should have enough margin to cope with an increase in noise level.
I've found this to be just before dusk, or just after dawn (although midnight isn't too bad, as there's a fair amount of AM radio interference, but most of your neighbours would have turned the telly off and gone to bed).

In any case; I didn't choose the midnight resync, it did that on it's own (and, luckily, did it at full speed).
The fact it synced back to maximum speed indicates it was unlikely to be a noise induced resync, and was most likely triggered by something (as I didn't have a power blip - the modem and HH3 are on a UPS anyway - I figured it was probably triggered by the OR equipment).

Yup - I agree with that reasoning behind the time of a resync - it depends on what you seek from the resync.

I've found that my FTTC line shows the highest SNRM values between midnight and 10AM, and the peak is around 6AM-10AM.

If I wanted the highest sync speed (with DLM having already intervened), I'd want to resync at these times.

However, if I want DLM to believe that my line is in best condition (lowest ES and lowest FEC rate), and I'd want to persuade DLM to reduce intervention, then I'd want to manually resync at the time of day that had the lowest SNRM, and achieve the lowest speed.

That way, I'lll get only a few errors.

I also agree with a previous poster: midnight seems too early for DLM's intervention. In previous experience, that tended to happen between 2AM and 7AM.

Either that or the wonderful World of vectoring has arrived in sunny Banbury (some hope smile )
Well, let's face it. It needs something to recommend it as a town tongue

(posted from Brackley - an altogether nicer place to live).

Though they DO make exceedingly nice cakes...
