HG612 IP Address

What is the default IP address for the modem?

The Manual says:

By default, the IP address of the LAN interface of the HG612 is 192.168.1.1

What's wrong with Google?

That is what I thought.

However, I run my local network on 172.xx.xx.xx and with 172.xx.xx.1 I cannot access through Telnet. I can get to the GUI on LAN2 using .123 (allocated by me) but that does not show the information I need.

I think you telnet on .123 as well.

You need to use the IP address you have given it for telnet as well, so the same one you access the GUI by.

Also note that a firmware update does not alter the IP address.

Thanks, or some reason I was thinking I needed to access though LAN1 and not LAN2.

Now to try and get BT to sort out my problem ...

Currently though GUI Upstream Attainable is 22308 and SNR margin 7.1,

BT tester further diagnostics Max Achievable 20Mbps, Upload speed 8.92Mbps.

Speedtests on TBB and others give around 9 to 9.5


Had the problem 18 months back and it was a pain to sort out ... it had held up at 18+ Mbps since then and it was only when BT asked me to reboot the modem and change my local IPs to the 198.xx.xx.xx range to sort another issue did it drop back to 9Mbps. At the same time though my downstream went from 58 to 67 so I was wondering if the negotiated bandplan had was non-standard or corrupted but it looks fine.

In the stats it's "Bearer" that is the sync speed. Not the "Max".

What does that show?

Re the BT Further Diagnostics, the downstream IP Profile is valid, but the upstream is always 2, 10 or 20Mbps depending on the product. Nothing directly to do with the sync.

It give 19999 - as expected. The reason I quoted attainable was to show that the line should be able to support 20.

I have had the problem before and it took several days of BT Tech onsite to resolve it. It just suddenly went from 9.5 to 18.5 ...
