So finally the time has arrived, a BT Openreach engineer arrives on Friday to mull the options of connection. I was called after I placed my order on the BT.com retail site by an engineer to advise he had looked at the records they have for my property and noted the direct buried phone lines.

*UPDATE*

Finally after some time BT Openreach installed the new Telegraph Pole, a week later they came to my home installed the fibre and connected me to the 300/30 service.

I have to say I am very impressed by the speeds I achieve, consistently obtaining 300+ mbps on various different Speed Test websites including BT Wholesales speed checker website.

I have gone from famine to feast, EO line 5mb/1mb to FTTP 300mb/30mb, I was paying Xilo £14.99 plus BT line rental £15.99 TOTAL = £30.98 to a total of £66 per month now for the new package,.

Despite what I thought that I could just have a Fibre service and no phone line, I must still pay line rental on the PSTN line which is still functional even though my phone is plugged into the fibre modem and I have voice routed this way. £50 FTTP / £16 Phone.

That said I paid £0 for installation costs and only P&P for the Home Hub 5 to be delivered.

Overall I must admit BT Openreach have been excellent, BT retail less so. Everytime I ring soon as I mention Infinity 4 customer (Fibre to the Home) I am passed from pillar to post with each person respectively telling me there is a dedicated team for this, for which I can't have the number direct.

Overall very happy, kids and wife happy between everyone we have done 700GB in two weeks already.

Makes me just want to cry, we have all the sodding fibre manifold in BT's pit and the black bottle enclosure up the pole just no blown fibre and its been like that since end of 2011
And the sad thing is it will probably stay that way, and we will probably be one of the unlucky ones that never get any better than a slow ADSL connection.

It was all fitted in the footway, they moved it all and changed it. This is why a) it took so long and b) I was surprised as the footway only served 4 houses, they didn't know from the survey the cables were buried direct with no ducting. Only after they deployed to the footway did they come and survey and told me "oh you need a pole"..

The 'black bottle' IS the manifold. What is in the footway bow will be a DP node.

Nope, a house several doors down has FTTP, so that doesn't help much either.

Yeah, well we have the black rectangle block in the pit (last time I saw in there when BTOR guy was working on the phone line) and the bottle up the pole, sad thing is it stands out on the pole so its hard to miss it

I have to wait until the 22nd (2 days) for a call from BT stating when we can get fibre (i.e. when they will be back to finish off the install) and if not why, my local MP want's to also know why the delay, I did a rollout image and its like a patch work
I expect it might be down to blockages etc due to I have seen BT retrieve redundant BT cables along the main road between our road and our exchange, so I am hoping its to clear up room.

Also expecting a visit from a VM engineer the same day to discuses options with them etc, so whoever can provide fibre we will go with them.
Would be nice to get a Tivo Box again
