New poles

Just been looking on roadworks.org and as well as showing BT are running fibre to our village they are also replacing 6 poles.... is there any significance in this in terms of fibre? our area is listed as having a mixture of FTTC/P so that is what I am wondering about, could it be something to do with FTTP? or just replacing old poles whilst in the area.

FTTC seems the most likely as the cabinet is in the middle of the village and would give good speeds to everyone actually within the village. There are around 40-50 properties.

Any housing developments going in nearby?

BT last year decided to do some minor rebuilding of the local network to accomodate a new housing estate (probably some new copper pulled in for it plus moving around loads of poles to accomodate road junctions).

Unfortunately they didn't take the opportunity to FTTP either the new estate or those of us on the poles they had to replace.

Well these poles were meant to go in this week along with the completion of the fibre run to the village but roadworks.org has been updated today, the new poles are no longer listed and the fibre work now shows that there are 7 duct blockages, work on that now to be carried out next week. I was so excited to see what was going to happen also will have to wait a bit longer..

Update - The new telephone poles have gone in, they are in new positions and not replacing existing ones. The old/existing ones are for both telephone and electric.

Anyone got any idea why they would be doing this? is it just so they can move the lines to a dedicated pole or is this something they do for FTTP ?

The only glimmer on the FTTP front, is that if the current copper service is via joint user poles (as you describe) then the poles owners, the electric company, will not grant Openreach the right to make new attachments for the fibre stuff.

So ......... maybe.

Interesting. They actually put another pole in today, it is in a location near the cabinet where they recently dug a trench to (from the chamber in front of the cabinet). Anyway guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Either way, FTTP or FTTC, I will be happy
