Ok, thanks.

One thing I have noticed regarding plus net is that they have the same up to Upload speed on both 38 and 76 packages, BT drop theirs on the lower infinity 1 package.

A decent upload is handy for me when transferring photos to clients.

I switched from Infinity 2 to PlusNet 40/20. The good price with good upload and adequate download fitted what I wanted and was an extra factor in the decision to move.

My modem didn't even resync on the change, around 73Mbps.
Download speeds went down from 70Mbps to 39Mbps.
Uploads stayed the same at 18.6Mbps.
Pings to bbc went down from 20ms to 11ms (BT had silly internal routing Winchester->Sheffield->London which add around 9ms to all routes).

No problems at all from PlusNet yet except that I had to nudge customer service on the changeover because something that should have happened automatically didn't. They answered the phone in clear English within 5 mins and fixed it an another minute.

PlusNet use the more expensive 80/20 wholesale service for both products and then throttle the downstream for the cheaper service. Most providers don't do this as it affects the bottom line cost of providing the lower speed service. As far as I know PlusNet are unique in the market in doing that.

Been on the phone with BT... MAC due to be sent by email, also these offers

Infinity 1 £15.65 for 12 months - 12 month contract
Infinity 2 £19.85 for 12 months - 12 month contract (Currently paying £29.46)
also... Free Caller ID for 12 months -£1.75

Advised if I do take up the offer, call back in 12months to have the same conversation as today.....

I took the Infinity 2 offer with caller ID that you state. Mainly because I was thinking PlusNet but was having second thoughts whilst waiting to see how some of the issues that have been reported settled out. But, 12 months with that discount was good enough for me for now.

PlusNet 40/20 will cost £14.99 with first 6 months at £3.75. That's cheaper than the Infinity 1 with double the upload speed. (not sure how the phone parts match)
And you'll probably get a decent cashback if you check ~ looks like £100 on Quidco if you opt for the PlusNet 80/20

You will have the hassle of moving; fairly small hassle for me but there is always a niggling worry in the background.
