When the modem negotiates a sync speed with the dslam, they agree on one that gives a noise margin of 6. (Because higher noise margin means lower speed and lower noise margin means higher speed)

I thought ISP's like BT set these to 6.0dB (their default) unless its for capping the user, Sky was doing that to our other ADSL2+ line to cap us at 4Mbit, and as soon as they removed the cap it when back to how it was when BE was on that line.

Unless DLM has decided to cap your sync speed - then the noise margin will be higher.

Openreach DLM tends to cap the sync speed which raises the noise margin.

so.....could be DLM again?

Could be, or a fault causing noise to rise and fall.

And openreach DLM is different to any Adsl2+ dlm system
