If they was BT Openreach and not a sub contractor for them, you should of just asked them, sometimes they do have a quick chat, I have had several chats over the last 3 to 4 years and they seem rather pleasant to talk to.
I have found that the sub contractors for BT Openreach don't really know much, or they are good at keeping quiet.
As for talking to BT, is a waste of time all they mostly say is "sorry fibre is not in your area" and that they will pass on that your interested in getting fibre or they will say "I will send a message to Openreach, which could take up to 10 days for a reply" and you never hear anything more.
