Are you saying that this is a new-build, with the developer telling you that it has been pre-wired for FTTP?
Or have you made this assumption because you saw the FTTP-on-demand product on the DSL checker?
As others have said, the area is natively an FTTC one, so wouldn't have the simple, native GEA FTTP products available. In existing properties, you can only order FTTC, and have been able to do so since April 2011.
In such circumstances, FTTP-on-demand is being rolled out as an alternative - but is priced for businesses, with £thousands for installation and £hundreds per month, minimum 3 years.
However, if the apartment is new-build, it could certainly be true that the developer has organised a pre-installation of FTTP with Openreach. This would go beyond our understanding of the norm, and would probably not show on the DSL checker yet either.
It is painfully obvious to me that I need to take some pictures of the equipment seen in the apartment to come to any meaningful conclusion of what has been installed. I'll try and do that as soon as possible.
To answer the questions posed:
Built in 2011 and purchased as an investment by the seller and has never been occupied. Therefore the developer has long gone.
Seeing a box next to the master socket with FTTP on it gave me the impression that FTTP was available but as I had/have no idea what is installed for that kind of service assumed it could be connected up by a simple order.
Obviously FTTPoD wouldn't be something I could afford and as for native FTTP I've not seen the pricing structure so don't know if it's in the affordability bracket either. It's beginning to look as though I will have to opt for FTTC with connection speeds a lot lower than my existing 53/9 service.
If it is something that "goes beyond the norm" then I guess it could only be provided through BT. The intended purchase has gone too far to pull out now. Dam I thought we were on a winner here.
