I was on a cabinet before i moved that was commercially unviable and BT upgraded it had around 200 homes on that cabinet.

We're in a fairly large residential area - is there any way of finding out how many users our exchange serves (and how did you get BT to do the upgrade if it was commercially unviable ?)

I Emailed BT and that was the reply i got, then 2 years they upgraded it using the superfast west yorkshire funding.

Your area looks a lot bigger and im sure BT have a eye on it ,but may need a push , have you registered on BTs web site for fibre that way it show an interest and they have a idea if its worth it sooner rather than later.

Yeah - I've registered my interest with BT. However as I mentioned previously - Kirklees council have opted out of Superfast West Yorkshire. Which seems to be a strange decision given that the replacement vision is going to take a couple of years to implement.

Frustrating times !

If you can get the ISP to tweak the target noise margin down you can gain some more speed, and should only need a little more to gain enough to do basic streaming.

EMBIRSS which is the Birstall exchange and seems to fall under Leicester BDUK project does not seem to have WBC ADSL2+ available which explains the 448 Kbps upload, but there is LLU with ADSL2+ and going to ADSL2+ will boost upload and might give a little more speed and would also avoid the annoying IP Profile that can be an issue on IPStream Max exchanges. General rule is if only Max available but LLU available then use that.

Local knowledge for the win...

I think the guy is in the Kirklees village/town Birstall, which is covered by the Batley exchange.

Bummer is that Kirklees isn't part of the Superfast West Yorkshire project so no BDUK, they're doing their own thing.

So Batley exchange does have WBC on it, so should be ADSL2+ already.

This makes the upstream at 448 Kbps a little odd, it may be the line has been banded, since WBC ADSL2+ should generally sync the upstream at anything but 448 Kbps.

Ok - I'm with BT - are they generally amenable to doing this kind of thing ? It's been a long time since I've had to argue with anyone over ADSL lines - certainly not since the early days when I arranged to have interleaving turned off because it was killing my latency !

Usually easier with other providers, but should be possible if you have a day to waste.

Plenty of spare noise margin on the upstream, and downstream has a little spare. I presume you've already tested and resolved any wiring conflicts, i.e. tested the line from the test socket and got the same statistics.

Also worth finding out what ADSL mode you are connecting with, e.g. G.992.1 or G.992.3 or G.992.5 (ADSL, ADSL2 or ADSL2+) decent modems include this along with the connection stats.

I've got a Netgear DGND3300; which unfortunately doesn't tell me what kind of ADSL mode I'm connecting with - that I can see at least.. Any ideas how I can check (or what to look for given the mode isn't displayed obviously anywhere ?) - I've telnet'd into the router and had a poke with the adltctl commands; but again nothing obvious...

And yes; the house wiring is fine - BT installed a brand new master socket when we moved in a few months ago; no extensions in the house to ruin things
