In reply to a post by DazPazz:
the postcode checker still comes up with the same old adsl service only :-/

The postcode checker is not reliable for FTTx. Use the address checker.

Have i ordered? lmao laugh

I've had to order with TalkTalk as we are currently tied into a contract with them and tbh we have no issue with the service they've provided us over the past 6 yrs or so.

The earliest slot i could get was the 22nd but i booked my order for the 23rd, which is a Thursday, so I may as well take advantage and book the Thursday & Friday off work and have a long weekend.

Just wondering now if the misses would notice me ordering a new Billion 8800AXL to replace my current 7800N

Haha, I bet she would! - i've got a 7800DX as backup router - which did does the job very nicely. I'm using a VDSL router right now - a fritzbox 7490 (hopefully so i can put the BT box out of the way and just stick with my one device). Will find out Next week.

I'll be interested to see if they offer to 'move' my master socket like they're supposed to.

Changing the subject completely.. How on earth has someone managed to write 'don't' on the UKIP sign along the old high street without being spotted when the sign is half way up the house.. they must have had a ladder smile - I did see a couple of people replacing one of the defaced signs.

I think the only UKIP sign not yet painted on is the one opposite the dentist near me. smile - While i'm not going to vote UKIP (they want to restrict and monitor the internet even more), and it wasn't me - It is pretty funny.

I did change a spare wireless ID to 'Don't Vote UKIP' - which has a rather large range as it's in the attic.

All done.
Young engineer. I was home by 12 PM - engineer came 14:15.

I'd actually been monitoring my internet connection since 12, i saw they'd flicked over to vdsl and my connection drop around 2PM. I quickly swapped over my network settings, and had my connection up and running before he knocked on my door.

Full 80/20 sync rate for me.
I showed him my stats and he double-checked them.

He left me the BT VDSL modem that they'd normally install in case mine ever broke.

He was very glad i was so quick as he had loads of installs to do today. Although I wasn't given the opportunity to relocate my master socket.. i should have probably said more about it.. but i was too excited.

here is my old connection

old connection

here is my new connection
New Connection

Dazz gets his connection this week too

also me flapping over if it would play nicely with my router was a fuss over nothing - It was easy.

Nice one! Roll on Thursday morning for me...

TalkTalk delivered their all-in-one 'Super Router' today and trust me when i say it is rather 'Super' laugh Hoping I can put it into modem only / bridge mode after installation and carry on using my 7800n as the router until i can convince SWMBO otherwise.

You mention that you did the home install side of things yourself, did the engineer offer to install a new filter faceplate or move your master socket?

No the engineer didn't offer to move the master socket / install a new faceplate. I think he saw I had a faceplate and the stats were fine. But I'm annoyed that I didn't get him to move the master socket. In hindsight I should have screwed back an old manky faceplate / uncabled everything so he'd have had to have moved it in order to provided me with a connection smile - although I was just excited about my new speed.

If he did move the master socket - i think he would have just extended out internally - rather than re re-cabling and drilling the BT cable from the outside wall to the the new location.

1 thing that may be relevant. This was a contractor to BT Openreach - they didn't have a BT van, although it had a small openreach logo on it. I got the impression that they were incredibly busy.

Dazz.. I haven't checked to see whether my new connection improves my battlefield / Steam gaming collection. I'll try it out tonight - But it was very nice to be able to stream netflix, have several downloads going and play a bit of wow (and teamspeak) without any slowdown.

and Dazz for your billion vdsl router..

your username/password

ATM settings:-

VLAN ID 101 (the important bit - use VlanID for internet access if you have a tickbox)
VPI 1
VCI 32

Encapsulation:-
PPPOE

it really is that simple (you can pick annex A or Annex B if it asks for dsl region - will work with either)
