Pulse8 Broadband

This company https://pulse8broadband.co.uk is very odd when checked fibre availability checker as it say for my telephone number:

Great News! Superfast Fibreoptic Broadband is available in your area.
Your estimated download speed is 61.93Mbits/s
Your estimated upload speed is 12.18Mbits/s

But.....Plusnet & BT Checker below:

Your estimated download speed is 74.00Mbits/s
Your estimated upload speed is 20.00Mbits/s

So, I just wonder why is pulse8 estimated is much lower?

Plusnet, BT are 18 months contract but Pulse8 is just 1 month contract!

They're quoting the lowest speed from the impacted range on the BTW checker.

Ah, that's why. But surely they should use clean range on the BTW checker.

Possibly by quoting worst case scenario at point of sale, they cut down on customers complaining that they aren't getting the top speed.

Obviously the majority of people are going to get much better than the worst case scenario.

It's called managing expectations
Promise the earth and under deliver = unhappy customer
Promise a realistic minimum figure and over deliver = happy customer
Common sense from a company that obviously is trying to be honest.

I think the difference might come down to the kind of installation.

The "clean" range applies when there are no wiring issues - which should be ensured by a proper engineer-based installation. The "impacted" range applies when wiring issues remain - which may happen when the product is self-installed.

It could well be that ISPs that intend to perform an engineer installation will quote the bottom of the "clean" range, while ISPs that intend to go through the self-install route will only quote from the bottom of the "impacted" range.

Under such circumstances, "managing expectations" is done by only quoting the bottom of the range, rather than both top and bottom (or even just the top). That helps, but IMO, expectations would be better managed by impressing on people that their speed can vary over time.
