In reply to a post by benwiddowson82:
I would of kicked off had I been charged an install fee but that was free. I would of waited if we had not of been going away. Does unlocking it do anything interesting and is it easy to do?
only because you took line rental as well, but for a straighforward WBMC FTTC FTTC migration they do charge people the £50 install fee and still insist on not a 12mths contract but a 18mth min term ,BTOR / BTW charge £11.00 plus Vat for a migration and the ISP only has to comit to a 1 mth min term so why 18mths for incoming FTTC migrations ?

Thanks for the advice in the link.

I'm assuming it's to help cover the cost of the free/cheaper promotion period. Personally I'd rather pay full price and have no contract but I'm guessing most people get captured by headline rates.

Assuming you are using Windows, you need to have enabled the telnet client in the Internet Options.

Then go to a command line prompt and:-

telnet 192.168.1.1
admin
admin
sh
xdslcmd info --show

If you have a Bearer 1 line G.INP is enabled, like this
Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 16961 Kbps, Downstream rate = 60000 Kbps
Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps
If you don't, it isn't.

If you copy and paste the whole output we may be able to comment of various other things as well.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync 60000/16961kbps @ 600m. - IPv4BQM IPv6BQM

G.INP is active in both downstream and upstream directions.

As David says.

The Bearer 1 line is present, so G.INP is enabled. The zero sync speeds are normal, as it just uses a tiny fraction of the main sync when it is needed. 0.01% IIRC.

That's why I gave you the example of the line being there. If G.INP isn't enabled there is only the Bearer 0 line.

Other bits of info in the stats show it is bidirectional. It may change some time to downstream only.

That's disappointing as my sync speed has reduced slowly from 75mb. I saw a jump back up to 65 the other month.
