Re: FTTC slower than old ADSL2+ connection

[re: RobertoS] [link to this post]

How long is the line from the last telephone pole, e.g. if you have a 50m front garden then this is not currently included in the speed estimates from Openreach, and 50m can cause a drop off for VDSL2

This is why spending a bit of time to assess what you think is the actual distance can be useful

The closest pole is around 15 m from the house, before that it is underground, goes up a pole to connect the neighbors and to come to ourselves. The router is connected directly to the master socket around 50cm away.

Ok so not DP to master socket issue that some get.

And actual distance to the fibre cabinet is?

I'm not sure I imagine at least a mile.

If at least a mile, then those sorts of speeds are probably all that can be expected.

The line attenuation of 38dB hints at a very long line at 2km or more, the BT checker estimates are not always spot on. Given a postcode can usually come up with a line length estimate for the likely road routes

Odd how it's significantly slower than old connection though which was spot on with the checker.

Perhaps time to revert to none VDSL then
