Once PCP 147 has a fibre partner (FTTC cabinet) then it is almost certain FTTC will be available at some stage. Normally within a few months, occasionally it can be years if there are problems with power or blocked ducts to get the fibre to the DSLAM, now and then the FTTC cabinet is resited for whatever reason, now and then just gets removed.

The DSLAM is what is housed in the FTTC cabinet. It takes the fibre-optic link from an exchange, converts it to VDSL2 and merges it onto the phone line, returning the result to the phone cabinet and onward to your place. And vice versa for the other direction.

Thanks RobertoS. Going on what PaulK put a few posts up that 147 has a DSLAM, does that imply fiber based on your description or am I just being hopeful ?

Appreciate the input from everyone.
Well I am no expert, I am only going by what is presented to me on my screen within my apps.

The Cab at the top of the list, and several others, say 147. No.1 says cab 116 with FTTC. I haven't seen any others.

I was referring to the BT DSL Checker for G75 9GX link I posted.

Try entering G75 9GX into the BT DSL Checker and you will see in the list of addresses the DSLAM Cabinet listed as the first address.

Did I disagree? Do I indicate I looked elsewhere?

I thought I made a couple of comments about the list displayed using your link. [puzzled]

Had a look today. No new cabinet, which makes it interesting that the postcode checker lists a cabinet with a DSLAM ... or does this just mean the one at the exchange ?

No, if it was at the exchange then it would have a different postcode, no?
Maybe its a place holder for it, BT seem to do that for FTTC.

*** update ***
Maybe its in the chamber, doesn't your cabinet have a dual chamber on the ground, so maybe its sitting in there waiting for a fibre cabinet?

It won't be in the chamber, most likely the checker is just ahead of itself and this is where it is intended to go.

DSLAM arrives pre-fitted into its green cabinet and is lifted off the lorry onto the plinth
