I'm not sure why SFSY (the local BDUK organisation) left our cabinet to the commercial rollout despite Openreach having almost no interest in it. It frustrates me how they invested in upgrading 3 other cabinets on the exchange (E8, 15, 24) despite only serving a couple of homes/farms (E8 properties can already receive 15mbps+ adsl). Not only that, but many of the premises connected to P8 (myself included) struggle to achieve speeds of 2mbps (I get between 0.5 and 4, it seems to fluctuate a reasonable amount).

Well it probably the case it was already down as a commercial project which is why SFSY BDUK never acquired that cabinet, and you haven't seen much happening around your fibre cabinet, this is due to what I said about the BDUK work having more priority over commercial work.

In fact your pretty lucky being part of the commercial project, I have seen many upgrades done via the BDUK where the fibre cabinets have been placed just outside the exchange, resulting in very slow fibre speeds and that's if you was lucky not to be too far away from the fibre cabinet.

I say just relax and be patient it will probably get done, just like our 4 year old FTTP install will also get done, so its just a waiting game.

You might see stuff happening in between BDUK Work, prob every 3 months, we had several BT Openreach Engineers throughout July, so in theory we may see more if I am right end of October and throughout November, but like usual I am probably wrong LOL.

Assuming there are around 500 properties connected and the FTTC cabinet has a capacity of 288, are they likely to upgrade the old PCP cabinet in place (or replace the outer shell) before activation can progress any further? I heard that there isn't much room inside the older ones and they usually upgrade them, so im assuming with a high property count the spacing wont be sufficient?

(I started a similar thread asking a month or so back, but didn't supply much useful information at the time)

Erm, they normally just remove the old shell and fit the new shell on top, this giving the required space.
Saying that though we have both an old PCP Cabinet as well as a new one, still not sure if anything has been moved over to it, possibly has due to our connection is more stable than it used to be, not perfect, but better.

Our road is split up between 2 cabinets, the PCP cabinet for the top half was already a new cabinet that caters for 543 homes (FTTP: 304, ADSL: 239), however the lower half including our home was using the old tatty PCP cabinet catering for about 400 homes (all ADSL) and was installed a new PCP cabinet about 2 years ago.

But yeah, if needed they can just change the outer shell to a much larger one.
You might be lucky and might get the new Tool less PCP Cabinet, they look nice and neat and tidy inside

No probs, also try that email I sent you, they might have the required information on what's the hold up.
My guess would be the lack of free fibre engineers available to work on the commercial projects, I know some are being done, but they seem to be a lot slower compared to the contractual BDUK projects.

But keep us posted on the outcome, would be nice to see some more commercial projects completed.
