Re: Strange Openreach doc re FTTP

So if I want faster than 78 I've really got to stick with BT but if I wanted to switch to Sky to take advantage of their soon to be available Q service and all its features I'd have to take their fastest current FTTC service? I assume this would be the mirror of Infinity 2 and then I'd have to wait for the possibility of them providing FTTP speeds at a later date?

If your property has native FTTP available (then apart from a few 100 premises in the UK) you will NOT have the option of FTTC. Sky has chosen to not sell any service 40/80/100/200 or 300 where native FTTP is supplied, same with Sky

I don't know what the Q service is, but Sky fibre broadband is using Openreach GEA. Whether you can get FTTC or FTTP is a binary choice/decision made by Openreach at the time they enable your cabinet.

There is currently no upgrade path between the two. That will only come years in the future when all the copper lines get scrapped. If you are on FTTC with anyone then that's the best you can have.

There is what is called FTTPoD, (oD = on Demand), available from a few suppliers, but it is hideously expensive at well over £700 installation cost (up to several thousand depending on distance from an aggregation point) and subject to feasibility survey. Not only that, but I believe Openreach have "temporarily" suspended sales while they try to find a better alternative.

AIUI Sky do not do the normal FTTP anyway. Their FTTC Pro is in effect a mirror of Infinity 2, just different freebies.

I don't know what the Q service is

SkyQ was announced last week. New Sky boxes with 4 tuners and streaming services. They also allow you to access your content from other devices in the house (such as tablets, phones and new "receiver" boxes that take their content from the main box). There is a new router as well for Sky Broadband customers that allows the SkyQ receiver/extension boxes to also act as wifi repeaters.

The top end box also does 4K.

Have you read my post? If you can get FTTC now, then FTTP from BT is not an option. And if you can get FTTP then FTTC from Sky is not an option.

SkyQ will still work on other broadband connections. It is only the router that they are doing that is specific to Sky broadband. The actual TV set top box, the distribution boxes, the ability to stream to tablet/phone, etc will all work on other ISPs (they can't do anything else or they will seriously limit their audience).

I'd say it was duff photo's, I believe both those pictured in section 2 to be VDSL modems.

Ummm. As I said earlier, I think BatBoy was right.

The Huawei is definitely an HG612. The ECI has far more lights than the ECI modem. Also more ports and one that looks like the fibre of of the unit in Section 1.
