In reply to a post by slimj:
Hi,

I'm approximately 1.5km by road to my cabinet and cannot see how my line length would be any shorter so I estimate my length to be around 1.5km - 1.8km in length, dslchecker suggests...

20.6 - 13.3 (Clean)
15.6 - 6.1 (Impacted)

But I'm currently sitting at just under 23Mbps and hasn't budged over the past 5 months since getting the connection. Lucky I guess, but I was expecting my speed to be around 10Mbps.

Thanks - that is useful to know.

My line speeds are very similar, I am on the West Chiltington exchange.

It may be galling to pay out to get such a small improvement in speed but it is defiantly worth it.

However, if the cabinet is very new the speed and availability may be wrong. If it has been in use for a few months you should be OK.

It would be worth using the checker to see your neighbours speeds. You will quickly get an idea if you are on the edge of the coverage area - assuming you can work out the route of the cable from the cabinet. I am right on the edge of the coverage area and get between 3 and 5Mbps. I think that you may do slightly better than that.

Thanks

I am thinking along the same lines that any increase would be beneficial.

The cab was installed around Sept/Oct 2015. I don't have any neighbours to be relevant. 1/4 mile one way and 1/2 the other.

I have come across this article on the Zen forum and wonder what others think of it?

What that not all vdsl2 modems are created equal?

Just like with ADSL/ADSL2+ this was going to be case, even where its the same reference design a choice of higher tolerance components may make one model better than another. Then there is the various micro-code tweaks available to the firmware developers.

On the persons long line, the attenuation will tell them the line length in terms of copper.
