Poly is the duct tubing.
Edit: seems like its nothing directly to do with NGA/ fibre

Do the old style cabs and fibre cabs share the same number?

Says in connected to cab 4 on adsl but cab 8 is available for fibre

FTTC cabinets are not numbered, though they have their own code identifier, they are often referred to by the PCP they are associated with

I'd guess they needed to add more cables between the PCP and VDSL2 cabinets and there wasn't room in the existing ducts. Whilst there are several types and sizes of VDSL2 (FTTC) cabinet, most support up to 288 lines; each line requires two pairs of cables between the two cabinets, and as they tend to come in 100 pair bundles, that's 6x 100 pair cables required in all.

There has been discussion on these forums before, that often Openreach will only put say 200 or 400 pairs cables in to start with, and need to add more later. Main reason for this is that many cabinets will never reach capacity and putting 600 pairs of cables in to begin with is a potential waste of resource. Cabinets can therefore become "full" either:

- because the fitted line cards are full. A 288 line cabinet normally takes 6x 48 port line cards I believe, and starts with only one. Openreach seem to fail on the "just in time" fitting of the next card, so cabinets often go to "waiting list" whilst waiting tor a new card. With prompting, Openreach have been fitting additional cards in around a week, but I don't know what the non-prompted lead time is.

- because the installed tie cables between the PCP and VDSL2 cabinet are full, and more need to be added; this may or may not require new ducting. This could have been the case with your cabinet.

- because the PCP connector blocks are full, or worse, no room for additional connector blocks. Each of those 600 pairs of cables needs to be presented on a connector block in the PCP. Sometimes the PCP needs to be re-shelled to increase capacity.

- because the VDSL2 cabinet really is full (and an additional cabinet is required). Likely to take longest of all.

- And probably other reasons!

Cheers for that. Least they're appearing to sort capacity issues out...eventually

No, the cabinet is already full.
The work you have seen is not for NGA/ FTTC

Look for new build/development nearby..As for availability ,that can happen if a connection is ceased , then someone else places another order.

That means it's a short waiting list. Possibly only one or two people on it.

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

What happens when you try to place an order when it shows as "available"?
