well in trials a speed drop of 40% is within range of expected crosstalk, if the line was only just about syncing at 80mbit then the loss of speed is over 40% but still under 50%.

Regardless they should report it as that should fail the GEA test with such a big chunk lost.

The test socket result was the same speed at 43 Meg couldn't get faster than that!

Speed now dropped to 26Meg. My parents not happy about it.

Maybe log a fault with the provider in that case?

Hi,

Sorry for jumping on this thread but I wonder if you could help me out with a query similar to OP's?

We've been having a lot of trouble with congestion on VM (especially single-threaded downloads) and are strongly considering moving to FTTC but I was wondering if our cabinet is nearly full? Because if it's first-come, first-served, I'd obviously need to hasten things. We're very close to the cabinet though so I doubt crosstalk would be an issue.

Exchange is LVHUY, postcode L36 2NW, and cabinet P37. When I've seen the doors open it looked like about half of the fibre block was taken, from a distance, but best to check.

Many thanks!

considering how long it's been RFS I don't think it's going to fill up any time soon

Crosstalk isn't really a distance issue, I'm pretty close to cab but still lost 35meg due to crosstalk and still seeing reductions in sync now.

If the FTTC Cabinet is very close to your property I doubt any crosstalk will not reduced below 80Meg.

My FTTC went live in February 2014 and it now 25 months with 79999K/19999K still ongoing without reduced yet.

My latest line stats below:

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding (Trellis) On On
SNR Margin (dB) 12.3 15.9
Attenuation (dB) 11.1 0.0
Output Power (dBm) 12.5 -1.2
Attainable Rate (Kbps) 103805 35823
Rate (Kbps) 79999 19999

Thanks for the replies guys. I've seen a guy working on the cabinet quite a few mornings on my way to work recently so thought there might have been a sudden marketing push in the area or something.

The upper and lower non-impacted estimates are both 80Mb for my line.

I'm properly few up with virgin's woeful single thread speeds, especially around peak time. But because it's not a local node issue they're refusing to admit there's a problem, despite the fact a large number of people in the same area are impacted.

But that's a topic for another thread!

Just out of interest, is half full about right?

No probs if you'd rather not be specific though.
