Thanks - will check out the TP Link. Have found their products to be a bit hit and miss in the past but £33.33 is going to be much more palatable for a proof-of-concept project.

Wireless isn't an issue, we generally stick to Cisco APs (easy clustering) where possible unless the customer is a tightwad!

Looks like it's the ADSL one that's £29.99 at Argos. £39.99 for the VDSL version as far as I can tell.

Have not looked at wireless speeds other than it does go at least as fast as my line i.e 19 Mbps tests, but reliability looks at this early state a little better than the more expensive W9980 which was taking a long time to authenticate if I did see a drop.

Buy from Argos through Quidco will get you something like 5% cash back.

Given the cost at the actual VDSL2 router (rather than ADSL2+) Amazon is cheaper even when you allow for 5% cashback i.e. on £39.99 its £2 and this is cancelled out by Argos delivery of £3.95.

In reply to a post by MrSaffron:
Have you considered the TP Link W9970 VDSL2 modem/router the wireless may only be 802.11n but there is G.INP, vectoring and a bridge mode and believed to be a Broadcom chipset at just £33.33 each currently and three year warranty. Also can do 3g/4g failover with dongle and option to re-assign 1 LAN port as an Ethernet WAN port.

Have been using the device in router mode so far (22 hours), and want to leave it a few days like that before fiddling with bridge mode. My VDSL2 is not fast and while same speeds as other kit so far, the noise margins are a little more stable at night so might see the margin drop another 3dB to get me above 20 Mbps soon.

Hi Mr S
Thinking of buying the TP Link W9970 to use as a dumb VDSL2 modem in bridge mode (replace HG612). Can the antennas on the TP Link be removed?
