This is the one that was removed not sure why as it was the newer style, prob a couple of years old.

Hmm, that's not an old looking PCP Cabinet that I was expecting to see.
That looks like a rather modern cabinet, maybe rust from the river behind it, or maybe some defects in the cabinets outer shell.

I am assuming it was just the outer shell that was replaced, it would take a very long time to replace the entire internal wiring, normally when everything is being moved over to a completely new cabinet, they have to install it as close to the other one, or an agreed suitable location agreed by their planning team.

So if it was just the outer shell that was replaced then there was a structure issue with the old cabinet, maybe somebody welded the doors shut LOL

In our case a couple of years back, our new PCP cabinet was installed about a few feet from our old cabinet, however our old one has been left in place.
I am not fully sure if we have been moved over to the new cabinet due to the last time I was there I didn't see any padlock on the PCP cabinet, but that was a long time ago.

Ok, then I would think something was wrong with the previous shell, maybe a vehicle caught it, or like I already said it was vandalised etc.

It's common for PCPs of all ages to be re-shelled when they're FTTC-enabled; usually because of the two extra verticals which the PCP needs. It isn't set in stone though, sometimes villages with tiny PCPs get twinned with a fibre cabinet which is smaller.

I think the largest cabinets can support 288 VDSL connections.
I think its higher than that due to there are several FTTC cabinets on my exchange in London that handle 775 lines, I think it would be silly to only allow only the first 288 lines leaving about 480 lines without fibre, codelook says that it has passed 675 properties.

Maybe there was additional FTTC's installed for them, or added capacity, who knows.

Paul

The largest Huawei cabinets handle 288 connections, 6 x 48 port cards. We've 2 of them serving our PCP here, one full the other part way through card 5.

Drove past today to see 3 OR vans, and the PCP and fibre cabinets wide open, looks like they were feeding more pairs to the fibre cab as could see bundles of cable lying on the floor outside.

dunno. not an openreach/bt cabinet but appears to connect to the network so maybe for a mobile phone mast or other utilities monitoring
I seem to recall that cab 1 required additional tie cables and duct.

Spotted a load of work going on near Cab 1 and a new Huawei 288 has been erected today so I guess the existing one was full to capacity.

Just quick question does this require a new fibre line from the exchange or can they split the fibre from the existing fibre cab?

There's usually a bunch of fibre cables ran to each cabinet so I suspect they'll just use one of those. I could be wrong though, they may run another from a nearby node/manifold.
