and took another 15 mins to let them understand that I work in IT

What difference does that make. I work in IT too but there are some really stupid people who work in IT and I don't see the relevance at all.

SSE are basically an electricity company who have branched out into phone and broadband. This is using Daisy Wholesale (part of the Daisy Group) who seem reputable.
The deal looks good so I have signed with them for Ultrafast Fibre after being with Plusnet for many years. I am currently paying over twice as much for the same service. In addition I will get £131.30 cashback through Topcashback. In 18 months I will need to reevaluate my options.

Thank you all, for suggestions and your expertise. I have learned a lot just in a 6 pages discussion.

I have called BT and after a bit of push I managed to get Infinity 2 (my current package) down to £22.5 p/m plus line rental. (£10 discount); £40.5 p/m including line rental. They will keep this price for 12 months, excluding line rental that will go up anyway in July.

Not a huge deal compared to other provides, but at least now it's a reasonable price.

Thanks again!

I was referring to the VDSL modem, the customer service said I had to use TalkTalk one.

May be worth trying http://www.bt.com/myoffer again in a few days once you are in your new pricing package and see what it offers you then.

Any VDSL2 modem too, the TalkTalk router I believe has an Ethernet WAN port you can use - the Sky Hub is certainly happy in this arrangement, i.e. it auto detects how the connection is arriving at the router.

It may be hilarious if any offer would be available after this discount tongue I will try anyway.

That's what they said, I didn't investigate much, but I'm sure there's a way to not use their router!

TalkTalk provides their "Super Router" which includes a VDSL modem (earlier were two boxes).

I'm not switching to TalkTalk anymore, but my idea was to remove their lovely piece of craB, and use a VDSL modem/router bought by me. However, customer support said that TalkTalk fibre works only with their Super Router.
That means 100% you can attach any router to the Talk Talk one, but you cannot use another VDSL modem instead of the Talk Talk router. However I think there's a way to do this, I have seen some threads on Google about this.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but you can use any modem on talktalk as they don't use any authentication so any modem or modem/router will just work
