Does this mean I'm connected to Cabinet 6/1 before going onto the real Cabinet 6? If so what are the chances of 6/1 ever being "fibred" and made a stand alone?.
It does happen. The village phone lines where I live, up to October last year, used to be connected via a local connection box through to cabinet (No.2) in the next village (about 3km away) and then onto the exchange (about another 4km). We now have a fibre cabinet (No.3) located adjacent to the original connection box in the village (where it connects to the 'main' fibre connection I couldn't tell you). As it is, if I'd remained on ADSL I'd still be plodding along at about 1.4mb/s.
As to getting it upgraded, It really does depend on how much money your local BDUK is prepared to spend on getting you 'real' superfast broadband, and their solutions. For instance, round these parts fixed wireless seems to be the norm for those hard to upgrade places. Indeed, even though we have a fibre cabinet, since it's been installed, a fair number (judging by the aerials that have gone up) have signed up for the wireless connection instead of going the fibre route.
Our local BDUK (onlincolnshire) has a forum where questions much like yours can be channelled through....and get some answers. Even if the answer is 'maybe in 10 years time'! Presumably your area has much the same sort of forum. It should at least have a contact number / email.
If they ever tell you a time frame, I found roadworks.org very handy for keeping up to date for when works were being carried out.
Good luck.
