With luck they mean your cabinet is scheduled to get an additional line card tonight. If so, it's unlikely you will be connected tonight but by tomorrow night is a possibility.

The tale told by India is somewhat confusing, but the presence of a waiting list shouldn't affect the OP.

The waiting list affects whether an order can be placed or accepted in the first place. Once the order has been accepted, a port (and tie cable pair) has been allocated, and is held through to the installation appointment. Shirley?

I agree in theory, but I'm sure we have seen orders accepted at ISP online signup time then nothing happened on the expected date. Only for it then to be discovered it had been rejected on submission to Openreach and rejected.

Necessitation a fresh order to go on the waiting list, assuming the chosen ISP uses it.

We haven't heard from the poster yet, which is concerning.

Still waiting for the upgrade. I have an appointment for them to phone me to tell me that it still isn't installed tomorrow. Pointless calls from BT call centre in India to tell me that no engineer is working on the bank holiday. Someone was putting a sticker on the cabinet on Friday afternoon saying that they were open for applications; was going to challenge them but I was with my younger daughter and heading to a music lesson.

The call centre certainly make it seem like the installation is imminent. I'm not holding my breath. Main issue is upload speed for me; I've got photos that I was to upload but that is a pain at a 1 mb/sec speed on my ADSL line (and my router overheats if I upload too much at a time...)

On the plus side, the BT Broadband check link now says 'Available' rather than 'Waiting List' so that is some progress.

Speak to the ISP and see what the state of your order is. It matters whether an extra line card has been fitted, so everyone gets done in time, or just a port has been released.

You may be in the waiting list and only one port has come available. By the morning the top of the list will have snaffled it.

If your ISP doesn't use the waiting list, (few do), your order may be effectively dead when it comes to released ports.

Quite. But some do. It is an Openreach waiting list, so I would expect them automatically to proceed with the one on the top of the list.

If a new card has gone in then the waiting list will no doubt be handled. But orders not on it will have been rejected by Openreach at the time there was no availability, so need re-submitting by the ISP.

In the case of BT Consumer I expect they do have their own internal waiting list, but if I had ordered from them I would be checking the order status.

We get a few reports here of users who were given an installation or migration date, (not necessarily by BT Consumer), and come the date nothing happens. Only when they contact the ISP do they find the order was cancelled due to lack of availability, and they have to start again.

Is it still showing as available now? That would be good as it would rule out the single port having become available possibility.
