What actually happened was I started off with BT with an average of 47/48 Mbps Down and 8-9 Mbps Up my TB test history shows this is fairly consistent over the last months.
On Monday 6th switched to new provider and I know stuff has to settle down but I was getting about 32/33Mbps Down and 7 Up. Since then it has got worse (a lot worse) with the tester giving me frequent "warnings Your test shows variable download speeds. This may impact HD video streaming etc" every test I do is all over the place especially the TBBx1 avg & burst taes.
M-Line/Entanet sent a BT engineer out today and the discussion revolved around the line would have been physically "Lifted and Shifted" at the cabinet - there were 4 faults on the line only 1 Critical "but was within tolerances?" and he could not get permission from Mgmt to move it in the cabinet.Although he discussed this with management he wouldn't log it on the report which leaves me potentially paying OR for this debacle!
He said the cabinet is sending out 84Mbps and the speed to my master socket is 50Mbps. So for an 80/20 service (up to a max of 64Mbps) the line is capped but he was not in a position to change that it was my ISP who should do that
The other parameter which is different is a different modem. I have tried another modem but that too gets erratic test results.I have to stick with the original router supplied by the SP to get something done.
The OR engineer was quite honest with me that he was groundwork and not broadband specialist trained.
Can anyone glean anything from the above at all. I'd like to be a bit more informed before I contact the new ISP again?
Oh he said that the distance from the cabinet might be the reason for only 50Mbps {I think it is about 700-800 metres} ???
