Replace BT Master Socket

Hi

My current master socket has a few cracks in it so I'd like to replace it.

Can anyone recommend what the best option is.

That box looks fine from the photo - where are the cracks?

If it's the back box, the only official advice is that you need to ask OpenReach to replace it as the back box is there equipment. This may end up costing you at least £120 + VAT.

Unofficially, RunITDirect sell the OR NTE5s at a not unreasonable price. (Other suppliers may be available!!)

Looks like a screen grab from some where (is that an ISDN NTE in the background?).
EBay or amazon for a cheap replacement.

Knowing which bit has cracks is key to knowing what to suggest as possible replacements. If it is just the front plate then ADSL nation could be a good easy choice. If it is the main back plate then it should be a BT job as it is not supposed to be done by end users (and if a fault develops and it is a non-BT component then they may charge for fix).

The image is a sample to show what mine is like.

The cracks are on the VDSL Filter/Splitter and NTE5 front plate.

Any links to suitable replacements ?

Loads on google. You want an NTE5A faceplate and a Mk3 VDSL filter. And a warning sign saying "Don't bash this with the vacuum cleaner".

I think the vacuum is the reason for this..

Are you sure you're talking about the MK3? I thought it was the MK4 that you had to be "extra careful" with.

LOL. Bash a Mk4 with a vacuum cleaner and it wouldn't crack. It would simply fall off. Breaking its retaining clip(s) in the process.
