Perhaps when they plugged in the wires it was a contractor who did it and they didn't label the cable. Then another contractor unplugged your cable and used it for someone else's connection. Happened twice to me before, all those clueless contractors should be fired for being so stupid.

I have an update on this issue.

I came home from work today after leaving the router on in it's 'stuck on orange-light' mode and hey presto, the blue light was back on on the "faulty" (according to BT) Smart Hub. Connection speed as good as ever.

They still sent me a new hub today so I have swapped them over just to be safe.

Out of interest I then plugged in the D7000 which also connected straightaway. (username only, no password). So this would suggest a fault at BT's end, methinks..

Seems my next door neighbour got his BT Infinity service connected yesterday. Hmmmm...

Makes you wonder if an Openreach engineer spotted the mistake.
