Line Stats

Hi
Do these line stats look ok
I'm using a talktalk HG633
i'm on there faster broadband 80/20
using a cable i can get about 70mb/s
however on wireless i can't get above the 30mb/s
I've spit the 2.4G & 5.0G different SSID
i've tried changing the channels
Do i need a different router

My Router is a Talktalk HG633
I'm connected to a laptop iphone 6 Ipad amazon firebox at various time of the day they always max out at about 30mb/s
I'm using the http://www.speedtest.net/ Ookla tester.

Very strange! What type of WiFi technology is in the laptop? If it's got AC then I'm stumped.

If you use the 5GHz SSID with a relatively modern device (802.11n is OK, 802.11ac preferred) then you should be able to do better than 30 Mbit/s assuming good signal strength. However, some routers have very sub-par Wi-Fi; I don't know how good or bad the HG633's Wi-Fi implementation is.

The speed test results when using a cable indicate that, as the VDSL2 statistics suggest, that there's nothing wrong with the broadband side of things.

If your router has WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) enabled, the hard-wired part of the box will be pushing everything straight through but the Wifi bits of the box may be prioritising other traffic before the speedtest stream for the tester you are using. I was seeing the same sort of Wifi/hard-wired split of speedtest results on some test sites with a Billiion 8800NL until I disabled WMM. Once I had done that both hard-wired and Wifi returned the same results.

The reality for the Billion router is that whether WMM is enabled or not, the speed achieved for practical usage on Wifi is no different to the speed achieved when hard-wired; it's just the Wifi speedtest results which have been down-dialed so that other streams like VoiP or video get priority.

It is wireless AC enabled. No reason 5ghz wouldn't max out.

How do we know the laptop is?
