Re: FTTP On Demand

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

FTTPoD Setup costs are based on distance to the nearest fibre aggregation node, not to the DP or cabinet. According to BT/OR around 96% of FTTC users are within 2km of an ag node. I was charged band D construction/setup costs of 3.7k, it was something like 800m to the ag node. I think even you live on top of the ag node expect to pay at least 1.5k. In the no-obligation quote from Fluidone they mention the band your property falls in.

Yeah once the service goes live I'll create a new thread giving my experience & stats, however being based in North Scotland I'm not expecting single digit ping times. Will be happy with anything less than 20ms on fibre, currently get around 22ms on FTTC.

The fibre doesn't come from the cab, it comes from an aggregation node.

Do a search on the Forum for FFPoD, it's not as easy as it sounds. Expensive set-up and monthly fees (£100's).

I just searched for FFPoD as suggested, and only 1 post came up! wink

Saltank did a typo. It should be FTTPoD. (Just in case you aren't joking).

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. Sync 63018/13016Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

Yes I realised it should have been FTTPoD (but FFPoD is quite a difference!), and I thought my bolding would have made it obvious I knew. smile
Perhaps I should have chosen a different smiley!

thank you all. Looks like limited suppliers. I only asked as I could only see the ones mentioned and wondered if there were others.

But... at the costs some of you are paying, I am going to carry on with the fttc service I have for now. Looks like a true fibre connection for a payable cost, of any sort, is truly years away.

On a custom basis costs are never going to cheap, only if any operator decides to bring it to an area on a widespread basis is connection pricing going to drop.

At least one possible meaning of FFPoD could be closely allied to a major usage of the net wink.
